It was discussed in 2000 to establish an engineering college for the benefit of students in West Bengal and the surrounding area in an effort to support the efforts of the West Bengal Government College and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) in enhancing the infrastructure of technical education in this region. St. Thomas' College of Engineering & Technology was founded to give the concept form with the goal of providing students with quality technical education and instilling confidence in the young talents graduating from the institution to face the difficulties of life with courage. To ensure this, a plan was made so that it could become a seat of excellence in due course of time. The institution of higher learning is connected to West Bengal's Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), formerly known as West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT). All India Council for Technical Education has given its approval to the college (AICTE). Cafeteria: St. Thomas College of Engineering And Technology college canteen is available for the students throughout the day. The students have a variety of dishes to choose from like Chinese, South Indian, Bengali etc. Snacks are also available for the students. Wifi: STCET Institution has two dedicated Internet Connections of bandwidth 40mbps and 12mbps respectively. The internet is available from anywhere on the campus as the college is fully Wi-Fi enabled. The college has a computer centre where students may use internet facility after college hours as well. The computer centre remains open from 9.30 AM to 8.00 PM, Monday to Friday and 9.30 AM to 3.00 PM on Saturdays.
