Uttar Banga Krishi Vishwavidyalaya stands as a pioneering force ushering in a transformative era in Agricultural Education. Catering to crucial aspects of agriculture, the university provides advanced education at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. Established in 1979 as a satellite campus by the West Bengal state government, the university aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity in six key northern districts: Jalpaiguri, Malda, Darjeeling, Uttar and Dakshin Dinajpur, and Coochbehar. The campus gained accreditation from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and received increased developmental support. In the year 2000, the state government, under West Bengal Act XX 2000, elevated the campus to a full-fledged university to encompass the entire North Bengal region. Uttar Banga Krishi Vishwavidyalaya is also recognized as North Bengal Agricultural University. Since its inception, the university has played a pivotal role in transforming the landscape of agriculture and horticulture in North Bengal, influencing crop production, productivity, and cropping patterns significantly. A notable addition to its academic offerings is the initiation of a technology department, accredited by the All India Council of Technical Education since the academic sessions of 2005-2006. This department grants a 4-year B.Tech Degree in Agricultural Engineering.
